Improved handling of availability information limits during assignment

Member availability information is a crucial input for assignment quality. Previously when an assignment attempted to generate shifts past the limit of what had been imported or assigned from a referenced schedule the entire assignment would fail with an error: “Insufficent availability data”!

On-Call Optimizer now assigns all requested shifts regardless of availability limits, but defaults at confirmation time to only adding those prior to the limit (e.g. where availability information was available) into the schedule. Schedule admins gain the ability to override the default via an Accept shifts assigned without availability? toggle which includes those shifts after the limit in the confirmation when turned on.

For more details see the advanced confirmation options docs.

Visibility into missing availability

When a pending or confirmed assignment contains shifts assigned without availability information, the fact is higlighted in several ways:

  • An amber Missing availability badge in the assignment header contains a tooltip describing the date of the limit and the count of shifts assigned after it.
  • A vertical marker is shown on the calendar grid on the day availability is available until. The days after it are highlighted.
  • The shift popup for any shift assigned without available displays a warning. The warning shows in the main popup body while the shift is pending, and discretely in the footer once the assignment has been accepted and confirmed.

Bugfixes and minor changes

  • Fixed assignment cost reports occasionally double- or under-counting a member’s blocked or preferred time when it was recorded as several adjacent availability entries overlapping with a split or merged shift.
  • Improved availability import boundaries to more reliably align with the availability requirements of the schedules each member belongs to — reducing the likelihood of those schedules hitting availability limits during assignment.
  • Prevented schedules from repeatedly re-assigning shifts that had already fully elapsed and could not be confirmed.
  • Fixed display of an assignment with no shifts.
  • Improved error reporting for assignment configurations that do not result in any shifts being assigned.
  • Added missing input validation to prevent a swap being requested with an end time prior to the requested start time!
  • Fixed a rare assignment bug triggered when a single member was far over their target shift count that prevented assignment of the entire schedule.
  • Fixed shift history occasionally appearing under the wrong assignment group in evaluation views.
  • Removed restrictions preventing generation of assignments whose entire period is in the past, go wild if you need to!
